Summer Reading Program
Prince William County Schools Summer Reading Program:
The purpose of the PWCS Summer Reading Program is for students to enjoy quality literature while developing independent reading skills. Students’ participation in the program is voluntary. Books selected must be appropriate for the individual's reading level. Completed documentation must be submitted the first week of school in the fall.
Students who participate in the program will receive: one percentage point for one book, or earn a maximum of two percentage points for two books. The percentage points will be averaged into the first quarter grades in English.
A Summer Reading Documentation Form is provided below. The documentation is to include properly written bibliographic information, and a well written explanation of the topic or plot of the book. A parent or guardian must sign the document verifying that the student has completed the reading.
AP students: Choose from the appropriate AP lists attached; for students planning on taking AP English Classes during the upcoming school year.
ESOL levels 1-3 students: A special collection of titles have been selected are geared specifically for your ESOL students levels 1-3. You may choose other books equal to your ability and interests as well.
Students grade 9-12: Summer Reading Lists for Freedom's general student population. Please note: Although there are separate lists for each grade level, you may choose books from any of these lists, or choose other books commensurate with your reading level and interests.
Summer reading documentation must be submitted to your Language Arts teachers by the end of the first week of school to earn up to two percentage points on your first quarter English grade.
