National Alliance on Mental Illness

Freedom High School has become part of the NAMI on Campus family. NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for millions affected by mental illness.

NAMI on Campus club is a student-led, student-run mental health club. It is an incredible leadership opportunity for student leaders. The club promotes mental health awareness and education to support high school students through their transition to college and beyond.

Student Voice Committees (SVCs) aim to create meaningful partnerships between students, educators, and administrators with the goal of enhancing the climate and culture of their school building. With the ultimate goal of including students in the decision-making process, SVCs help to:

1. Elevate student voice and perspective within their school and the division at large

2. Strengthen the school community through action research and continuous improvement

Unified Sports

Unified sports is a team that brings students with and without disabilities together to enjoy sports and activities. The goal of Unified Sports is to make friends and build relationships. We currently play kickball and basketball and have cheer and track/field groups as well. We practice and play during the school day and have different activities going on all throughout the year. All members must meet academic and behavioral participation criteria to join/stay a member of the unified sports team.

African American History Club

The African American History Club is designed to engage students in supporting the growth of the African American history elective course, AP African American Studies, any courses related to African Diaspora, and the annual Black History Month program at FHS. Students participate in learning experiences surrounding the history and culture of African Americans including, but not limited to, annual field trips to the National Museum for African American History and Culture. Students also participate in and volunteer at the annual BHM program hosted at FHS. Students and sponsors encourage student to take courses like African American History and AP African American Studies to deepen their understanding of the African Diaspora. The goal of the club is to immerse students in classroom and extracurricular environments that foster a sense of joy and appreciation for African American history and culture and engage students in community service activities.

Play a variety of board games and or card games. The focus is on healthy, friendly interaction and occasional competition while providing students a place to feel welcome and entertained. Students will be barred from using electronic devices during club meetings.

First Eagles to Soar

First Eagles to Soar is a club for first-generation high school graduates—students who will be the first in their families to earn a high school diploma—serves to celebrate their achievements and support their current and future goals. During the school year, the club will offer workshops on college and career readiness, provide mentorship and peer support, ensure students attend after school tutoring and remediation, host motivational speakers, and create opportunities for leadership and personal growth. The purpose of the club is to empower students, build community, and help them confidently navigate the path to graduation and beyond.

Freedom Female Alliance Club

Students will practice resume-building skills and conduct mock interviews. Students will practice presentation skills about successful females in business and education, and will solicit guest speakers by practicing professional communication skills. Students will participate in specialized community service by creating flyers and a website for Freedom students that will be a hub for female-focused scholarships and extracurricular activities.

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance Club is a student lead organization designed to unite members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community to build companionship and organize around issues impacting them in their schools and communities. The GSA is designed to serve as a safe space for LGBTQ+ students and are vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.
